At Lower Farm Academy we understand that vocabulary is pivotal to children’s understanding and development. For this reason we have interlaced our entire curriculum with a focus on vocabulary development. Each class has a ‘word of the week’ which is shared with parents and children are encouraged to think of other words throughout the week to support the ‘word of the week’ this then forms part of the reading corner where children can continue to develop their vocabulary. We understand that reading a variety of books and texts is a fantastic way to enhance vocabulary which is why we have ensured that our reading curriculum supports this too. Please take a look at our reading information to find out more.
Every child is assessed for their language development when they enter Lower Farm Academy and supported through interventions if any gaps in their learning are identified. This is shared with parents and supports children to access the curriculum.
