We have 2 classes in Reception: Beech and Birch
Beech Birch
Class Teacher: Mrs Bottrell Class Teacher: Miss Bartczak
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Watson Teaching Assistant: Miss Nelson
To find out more about us, you can read our ‘All About Us’ sheets below. These are also displayed in the classroom and shared with children during transition.
Music
We have a music specialist who will provide classes with a 45-minute music lesson each week, focusing on singing; playing instruments (including steel pans, ukuleles, keyboards and glockenspiels); and creating music through composition and improvisation. Children will also learn to listen to music critically, read music notation, explore different styles and traditions, and understand how music has changed over time. Beech will have music on Wednesdays, Birch will have music on Thursdays.
Home Learning Menus and Reading Expectations
At Lower Farm, we expect children to read a minimum of 3 times a week with an adult who can engage with, question children and help further develop the skills taught in school.
In addition to reading, your class teacher will send home a half termly ‘Home Learning Menu’. Your children can choose activities that interest and engage whilst furthering the learning taking place in school.
11 Before 11 Promises
“11 Before 11” is an initiative by the REAch2 Academy Trust, designed to ensure that every child experiences a rich and memorable primary education beyond the core curriculum. It’s a set of 11 promises – unique, character-building experiences – that every child in a REAch2 school is entitled to complete before they leave primary school at age 11. These experiences are designed to:
- Inspire ambition
- Build confidence
- Encourage curiosity
- Foster resilience
- Create lifelong memories
In Reception, we will complete ‘Seed to Supper’ which involves the children planting and growing their own fruit/vegetables to then make a healthy meal. We will also complete ‘Ride A Large Animal’, in which the children will participate in a donkey or pony ride.
Trips, Visits and Experiences
Along with our 11 before 11 offer, we will be going on a number of trips, welcoming experts into our school and supporting our learning with a variety of fantastic experiences. This year, we will be visiting Ash End Farm as part of our Farmyard Fun topic.
PE Days for Each Class
Our PE days in Reception are Birch Class – Tuesday and Beech Class – Thursday. On these days, children will need to wear appropriate PE kit:
- Purple T-shirt/polo shirt
