Music
We have a music specialist who will provide classes with a 45-minute music lesson each week, focusing on singing; playing instruments (including steel pans, ukuleles, keyboards and glockenspiels); and creating music through composition and improvisation. Children will also learn to listen to music critically, read music notation, explore different styles and traditions, and understand how music has changed over time. Both Elm and Elder class will have music on Wednesday afternoon.
Home Learning Menus and Reading Expectations
At Lower Farm, we expect children to read a minimum of 3 times a week with an adult who can question children and help further develop the skills taught in school.
In year 2, children need to become fluent with their 2s, 5s and 10 times tables.
In addition to reading and times tables, your class teacher will send home a half termly ‘Home Learning Menu’. Your children can choose activities that interest and engage whilst furthering the learning taking place in school.
11 Before 11 Promises
“11 Before 11” is an initiative by the REAch2 Academy Trust, designed to ensure that every child experiences a rich and memorable primary education beyond the core curriculum. It’s a set of 11 promises – unique, character-building experiences – that every child in a REAch2 school is entitled to complete before they leave primary school at age 11. These experiences are designed to:
- Inspire ambition
- Build confidence
- Encourage curiosity
- Foster resilience
- Create lifelong memories
In Year 2, we will be ‘Wildlife Warriors’ and create a sustainable wildlife habitat for our school. As part of the experience, children will have the opportunity to create their very own wild flower meadow on our school grounds and the children can watch their flowers grow from seeds to fully grown plants. The children can visit their garden and help to protect the precious wildlife in our community.

Along with our 11 before 11 offer, we will be going on a number of trips, welcoming experts into our school and supporting our learning with a variety of fantastic experiences.
